Academic Policies and Procedures

Academic Integrity

All students are expected to be honest and to display a high standard of integrity in the completion of work.

Cheating or dishonesty of any kind on a test, written assignment or project is considered a serious offense and may result in a grading penalty and/or disciplinary action.

Report Cards

Report cards for grades 1st-6th will be posted to Sycamore (online management system) at the end of each quarter.  Pre-K and Kindergarten report cards will be emailed to the families directly from the teachers.

Grading

The academic year consists of four grading periods. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will receive attribute-based grades that will be assessed using:

  • E= Exceeds grade-level expectations
  • M=Meets grade-level expectations
  • S=Steady progress toward grade-level expectations
  • L=Limited progress toward grade-level expectations
  • N=Not yet introduced

Students in Grades 1-6 will receive both attribute and numerical grades based on the following scale:

  • 98-100=A+
  • 93-97=A
  • 90-92=A-
  • 88-89=B+
  • 83-87=B
  • 80-82=B-
  • 78-79=C+
  • 73-77=C
  • 70-72=C-
  • 68-69=D+
  • 63-67=D
  • 60-62=D-
  • 0-59=F

Homework

Homework may be sent home several times a week. Parents are asked to help by providing the time, place and encouragement needed to complete these assignments.

Promotion and Retention

Students are promoted to the next grade when the final average in each subject is 70% or higher and they have not exceeded the maximum number of unexcused absences for the year.  Students who do not achieve this standard will be retained in the current grade.
